One thing that I have noticed about people is the inability to connect a result from an action. Most people just do things and suffer consequences for bad behavior, but fail to connect the bad behavior with the consequence. For instance, people don’t wash their hands and wonder why they get sick. People fail to spend less than they make and wonder why they are in debt. People vote for a President whose policies have not revived our nation, but fail to associate his policies with the failure.
I think the reason for this is the failure of most people to become adults. Becoming an adult and learning about the workings of the world around you is not part of our culture anymore. We have created a culture of children. A culture that is independent of critical thought. A culture whose concern is on how cool the President “appears” than on what he actually says and does.
It appears to me and those who are “in the know” that most media, education, and culture do not attempt to educate, but merely steer the sheep toward control, consumerism, and debauchery. Most live their lives devoid of critical thought and actually work to crush whatever is left after public education with drugs, alcohol, and television.
It is increasingly hard to escape it. It takes great effort to train yourself to not be part of their world…almost to make yourself “Amish” to the mass transit of faulty information.
But escape it we must and we will. We must live for the truth, to strive for every critical thought, to improve ourselves, our economy, and our families, even if the world does not go along with us. We are called by St. Paul to (Ephesians 6)
10 …be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
