The Art of Opportunism

December 20, 2012 by stark2076

It has been a few days since I posted regarding the fix being in.  In those few days, Americans have stripped shelves clean in gun stores preparing for the expected ban.  That was probably not a bad move, but for different reasons than we normally expect.

A fairly talented photographer (warning, some of his photos are NSFW) an ardent 2nd Amendment supporter has a different take on recent events.  His basic premise is that while Democrats sincerely desire gun control, up to and including total disarmament of the American people, nothing significant will come from this.

First off, the President put Joe Biden in charge, and then assigned a committee.  That is exactly how not to get something done.  If Pelosi had been allowed to bring a bill to the floor, there could already have been a vote on another ban.  Instead, the V.P. is making a committee.

Next up, the school shooting and proposal of a gun ban distracts the media from the immediate, pressing issue of the fiscal cliff.  The President is still not playing ball with Boehner, who has caved on tax increases and is offering a plan to raise taxes.  If Boehner can get his plan voted on and force the President to veto it, that is a great political move for the Republican party.  However, this will not be broadcast to the masses as the President is busy tearing up on national TV.

Bottom line – worry more about the economy than the potential of another ban, but make sure your (and they are supposedly working for you) politicians feel.  The politicians in Colorado know exactly how their constituents feel, after a record setting day of gun sales last Friday.

Well said – the economy, debt, and culture war are the real issues here. Also, can you believe Obama actually tried to use the tragedy yesterday to compel the rest of us to come together to compromise in order to raise taxes!!

Oh, and how does someone like this get elected to office in TEXAS of all places??

“Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Wednesday afternoon urged people to turn in their guns, arguing it would be an appropriate response to last week’s mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.

“I would personally just say to those who are listening, maybe you want to turn in your guns,” Jackson Lee said on the House floor. “Oh no, I’m not going to take your guns. But look at what Dick’s Sporting Goods did … they wanted to be part of the solution and part of America.””

To be part of America you need to turn in your guns??? Maybe their America, but not the one I remember!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but among many things Mr. Ben Franklin is remembered for, I believe one of them is:

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Yup, my favorite quote – applies to so many of our current day problems (i.e. anti- gun crowd, war on terror, patriot act, NDAA, etc…)
