Rand Paul’s Filibuster

March 11, 2013 by bfranklin2076

Obviously, I was aware of the classic 13 hour long filibuster by Rand Paul, but at the time did not tune in to watch the entire event.  While doing some of my daily exercise I was able to listen to the sixth hour above and really was amazed at how excellent this really was, especially from the 15 minute mark onward.  I’m almost ready to dub this the Ron Paul/libertarian hour.  To label Rand a neocon or even a traitor to the liberty movement is preposterous after listening to this rant.  He spent time targeting everything his father tried to highlight on the foreign policy debate including the overall drone program (domestically and yes even on foreign soil), never ending war, indefinite detention, warrantless wire tapping, the Iraq war, causes for terrorism including blowback, and most importantly the excessive blight of executive power.

What’s perhaps just as impressive to me is that is has brought out overwhelming support from most of the mainstream conservatives (including Rush, Hannity, Levin, Laura Ingraham, etc …) who were all very critical of his father’s foreign policy by using perhaps the right political talking points and by keeping the heat on the Obama administration.  And yes I’ll applaud those few liberals (e.g. John Stewart) that actually called out Obama for his double-standard on criticizing Bush for his power grab all while taking executive power to a whole new level, whereas most of his base twiddled thier thumbs waiting for handouts.
